- I have a Zenith 159 PC-XT which I equipped with a CD ROM controller card CM153
- and a CD ROM drive CM201 from Laser Magnetic Storage. In my CONFIG.SYS I
- installed the High Sierra driver HS153.SYS. When placing a non-High Sierra CD
- in the drive and execute the DOS "dir"-command, I get the error message
- "CDR:101 Read faild, abort, retry, ignore?" instead of the expected message
- "CDR:103: Disc is not High Sierra". When loading the retrieval software
- ("Cobra") for this special CD (Data Leitverz from the "Deutsche Bundespost"),
- the program returns to the DOS shell without doing any search!
-
- I assume, that there must be a hardware problem. Does anybody know about this
- special hard-/software combination? Are there any suggestions? - Markus -

- I'll be glad to send you our ShowCase(tm) disc. It's certainly an interesting
- (HyperCard based) CDROM. You'll find a few multimedia presentations such as an
- interview with Bill Atkinson, a fully narrated article on CDROM technology and
- a products review section. In addition, it contains the first 1000 messages
- (or so) of the CIS CDROM Forum. (All of these are stacks, of course...)
-
- You will also notice the Discovery Systems HyperSearch(tm) as a slick
- navigational guide to the whole ShowCase disc. HyperSearch evolved from doing
- this ROM because we needed a better "find" mechanism than that which HyperCard
- offered. So we developed HyperSearch -- an integrated set of XCMDS for
- searching multiple stacks using "boolean" operators (and,or,but not) and a
- "Begins With..." capability. I think you'll have fun exploring the disc with
- HyperSearch.
-
- Let me know if you need any more info about Discovery (CDROM mastering and
- manufacturing) or about HyperSearch.

- So, you're doing a **CDROM** HyperCard application to teach foreign language
- speaking and listening skills...? That sounds pretty slick! Good luck with
- your project. Please let me know if you might be interested in using
- HyperSearch in conjunction with your app. (No, HyperSearch didn't show up on
- the earlier versions of ShowCase, only the one with a RED label.)
-
- And please do let us know when you're ready to go to disc. You'll find
- Discovery most helpful, I'm sure, as well as efficient (espicially
- economically...). Be sure to contact Jack Ryan (614/761-2000).

-
- Let's see...regarding Navigator. I was using a 1200 baud (Apple) modem. I had
- created the 2-part messages offline and was attempting to use Nav to connect
- and send them, but it sorta blew up on me. Brad Poulson (a HC Forum sysop)
- informed that there is indeed such a bug in Nav. So I'm back to using
- Microphone, with occaisonal ventures using Nav.
-
- Thanks for your input.

- Hi John, I saw the Scenario Dynabook at CD-ROM expo and was extremely impressed

- market. The thought of sitting down in a library with a small screen in your

- I'll be glad to send you the Discovery ShowCase(tm) CDROM that we did. I'm
- quite sure you'll find this HyperCard based ROM very interesting. There are a
- few multimedia presentations such as an interview with Bill Atkinson, a fully
- narrated article on CDROM technology and a products review section. You'll
- also find the first 1000 messages (or so) of this CDROM forum imported (and
- threaded) into a stack.
-
- We also implemented Discovery's HyperSearch(tm) throughout the ROM as a slick
- navigational aide. Actually, HyperSearch was a result of doing a Macintosh
- CDROM. We needed a better mechanism than HyperCard's "find" command for
- searching. HyperSearch became the answer. With HyperSearch you can perform
- "boolean" searching (and,or,but not) as well as use a "Begins With..."
- operator.
- And, of course, you can search any number of stacks since searching is
- enhanced by using sophisticated indexing routines.
-
- Anyway, it's simple to use and kinda fun -- espicially on ShowCase. If you're
- considering doing a heavy text based (such as the electronic form of the
- Washington Post) app, you just might want to consider using HyperCard. in
- conjuction with HyperSearch. Please feel free to contact Frank Donnelly or
- myself about HyperSearch here on the forum or at (614) 761-2000.
-
- Good luck reaching those "Post powers".
